About The Position

Under the direction of the Laboratory Manager performs all venipunctures and capillary collection on patients and transports all specimens to the Laboratory. Settings include physician’s offices, nursing homes, assisted living facilities and home draws. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduate of a Certificate program in Phlebotomy or Medical Assistant.
  • Must have reliable transportation and ability to work independently.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous phlebotomy experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Draws blood specimens following proper procedure.
  • Labels all specimens according to policy
  • Transports or prepares for transport all specimens to the laboratory
  • Follow all laboratory and hospital safety rules and universal precautions.
  • Monitors patient for negative reactions and takes appropriate measures to allay patient anxiety
  • Greets patient using customer care concepts
  • Verify patient information and in draw station enter information into the computer
  • Responds to inquiries from physician’ office, nursing home or patient
  • Verifies or confirms patients’ orders as needed
  • Maintains appropriate logs or records
  • Participates in the training of new employees
  • Assures that written physician orders accompany requested tests and ensures diagnosis is present
  • Informs supervisor of any patient or physician concerns for PI trending
  • Maintains an inventory of supplies consistent with usage
  • Covers in all areas of phlebotomy as needed
  • Complies with established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives.
  • Attends variety of meetings, conferences, seminars as required or directed.
  • Demonstrates use of Quality Improvement in daily operations.
  • Complies with all health and safety regulations and requirements.
  • Respects diverse views and approaches, demonstrates Standards of Respect, and contributes to creating and maintaining an environment of professionalism, tolerance, civility and acceptance toward all employees, patients and visitors.
  • Maintains regular, reliable, and predictable attendance.
  • Performs other similar and related duties as required or directed.
