About The Position

This role plays a key part in building and maintaining relationships with community members, partners, and local organizations to ensure outreach efforts are culturally responsive, accessible, and impactful. The Outreach Organizer will assist in identifying emerging community needs, conducting outreach and engagement, and helping ensure successful event execution from planning through follow-up. A strong candidate will be highly organized, detail-oriented, and an effective communicator with the ability to connect authentically with diverse communities. They should be proactive, adaptable, and committed to advancing social justice through culturally grounded work. Experience in community outreach, event coordination, or grassroots organizing is preferred. The Outreach Organizer reports to the Community Affairs Department Manager and works collaboratively with internal teams to support the organization’s mission and growth.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated commitment to social and economic justice
  • Successful organizing experience where you’ve motivated people to action
  • Knowledge of issues facing migrant people & migration patterns
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Fluent in English and Spanish (bilingual)
  • Good computer and technology skills, so can work within Google Suite, Microsoft Word & Excel
  • Driver's License and car (or Driver's License and reliable transportation)
  • Ability to work independently toward ambitious goals
  • Willingness to work afternoons, evenings, and weekends (not over 40 hours per week, but working when community members are not)

Nice To Haves

  • Fluent in an Indigenous language (trilingual)
  • Experience in public speaking
  • Must be able to lift 50lbs

Responsibilities

  • Organizing members of the community to participate in various campaigns and efforts, including the priorities of our current partnerships
  • All coalition-building and partnership efforts
  • Documenting stories and the issues that are important to community members, and the issues they face in the workplace
  • Politically motivate people to take action and assist political education efforts for staff and the community
  • Advise manager / CIELO on upcoming issues & campaigns
  • Assist with cafecito & food box events, as well as other outreach events.
  • Leading coalition building for CIELO, currently leading the CA Network for Immigrant and Labor Justice campaign
  • Create materials for different campaigns that CIELO participates in
