About The Position

This outreach position will conduct outreach to homeless individuals within the New York City Subway system, including end of the line stations, and on joint outreach with MTAPD or NYPD. The role involves accompanying and providing direct supervision of outreach staff on shift, including real-time feedback, modeling behavior, and communicating with partners and city agencies. The supervisor will coordinate onboarding for new staff, lead trainings on various topics, ensure team and client safety, conduct assessments, offer referral services, and maintain knowledge of homeless services and programs. Accurate data recording and consultation with supervisors are also key responsibilities. The position may also require providing emergency first aid/CPR or overdose prevention protocol assistance.

Requirements

  • At least 2 years of direct outreach experience required.
  • Will consider an Associate's Degree with 1 year of direct outreach experience working with the homeless and/or mentally ill and substance abusing populations.
  • Will also consider a Bachelor's Degree, with at least 6 months of direct outreach experience in working with the homeless and/or mentally ill and substance-abusing populations.
  • Basic computer literacy required.
  • CPR training certification or willingness to take training class in CPR.

  • Valid driver’s license strongly preferred.
  • Ability to speak Spanish desirable.
  • Vaccination preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct outreach to homeless individuals within the New York City Subway system, including end of the line stations, and on joint outreach with MTAPD or NYPD.
  • Provide direct supervision of outreach staff on shift, including real-time feedback, modeling behavior, and communicating with partners and city agencies.
  • Coordinate onboarding for new outreach staff, including explaining shift duties, registering staff for necessary trainings, connecting staff to BRC’s internal systems, and teaching data entry.
  • Lead trainings for existing staff on topics such as client engagement, recognizing mental illness, and skill reinforcement.
  • Ensure team and client safety, conduct relevant assessments, and offer referral services to homeless individuals encountered during their shift.
  • Maintain knowledge of homeless services and programs and remain up to date on recognizing signs of mental illness and substance abuse.
  • Record and maintain accurate data on all homeless individuals approached during shift and in client case records.
  • Consult with the shift and clinical supervisors to ensure coordination of services.
  • Provide emergency first aid/CPR or overdose prevention protocol assistance when needed.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
