About The Position

Niagara College is seeking an Outreach Coordinator for the Integrated Student Health Division. This temporary, full-time position is located at the Daniel J. Patterson Campus or Welland Campus. The Outreach Coordinator is responsible for managing the intake and triaging process for students experiencing mental health concerns or psychosocial distress. This involves conducting in-depth clinical screenings, determining service needs, prioritizing cases, facilitating referrals, and assigning cases. The role also involves identifying psychosocial factors contributing to student distress and facilitating access to appropriate supports through coordination and follow-up. Additionally, the Outreach Coordinator will develop and deliver outreach initiatives, presentations, and educational activities to raise awareness of Health & Counselling services, reduce access barriers, and promote student wellbeing across the college community.

Requirements

• Minimum four (4) year degree in health or mental health, such as nursing, social work, psychology, or similar field of study leading to a membership as a regulated health care professional
• Licensed or eligible to be licensed within a Regulated Health and/or Mental Health Profession within the province of Ontario
• Post graduate certificate or equivalent in mental health care or intervention
• Minimum five (5) years progressive clinical experience in a mental health setting, preferably with young adults, including clinical intake, triage assessment in a health setting
• Experience in an educational setting

Responsibilities

• Conducts clinical intake, assessment, and triage for students presenting with mental health concerns or psychosocial distress using active listening, clinical interviewing, probing questions, and standardized screening tools
• Completes comprehensive clinical screening to determine presenting concerns, level of urgency, psychosocial factors, and other circumstances that may be contributing to student distress
• Collects relevant clinical, psychosocial, and health information, including current mental health history, diagnoses, medications, previous treatment, and other information necessary to support assessment and service planning
• Determines appropriate next steps, including psychoeducation, self-directed resources, workshops, counselling, health services, campus and community supports, or crisis intervention, based on student need
• Prioritizes and assigns student cases based on presenting concerns, level of urgency, and service availability
• Develops, coordinates, and participates in outreach, education, and health promotion initiatives that increase awareness of Health & Counselling services and encourage timely access to supports
• Collaborates with faculty, staff, student leaders, and campus partners to deliver workshops, presentations, orientation activities, resource fairs, and other educational initiatives
• Provides immediate assessment, de-escalation, and supportive intervention when students present in distress or crisis, including situations involving risk of harm to self or others
