The Outreach Athletic Trainer provides day-to-day athletic training services for a local sports team. This role involves assessing, treating, and developing rehabilitation and reconditioning strategies for athletes, as well as designing and implementing prevention and education programs. The athletic trainer will attend all home and away games as agreed upon by the respective head coaches and/or athletic directors. The environment is a fast-paced orthopedic medical practice. Occasional night or early morning hours, as well as possible overnight stays, may be required. The position requires the ability to adjust and adapt to changing conditions and to handle high amounts of stress. The job safely administers prescribed medications of topical corticosteroids, topical lidocaine, or other Schedule VI topical drugs; oxygen for use in emergency situations; epinephrine for use in emergency cases of anaphylactic shock; and naloxone or other opioid antagonist for overdose reversal. The age-specific groups served include Adolescence and Adult.
