About The Position

The Outpatient Ultrasound Tech is responsible for operating equipment and performing all procedures at a technical level that does not require direct supervision. This role requires knowledge of patient transfers, positioning techniques, and quality patient care, including the use of patient restraint devices. The position also demands flexibility for overtime and on-call duties, a good understanding of age-specific developmental issues for all patient age groups, and open, accurate, and responsive communication, both orally and in writing. Ethical and professional conduct is expected.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Radiology or Ultrasound program.
  • ARRT, RDMS, or RVT certification.
  • Texas Medical Board-MRT if applicable.
  • BCLS certification.
  • Hold one or two imaging registries.
  • Proficient in proper patient positioning.
  • Ability to produce technically adequate images for interpretation.
  • Effective communication with patients, patient's family, and all medical personnel.
  • Effective communication in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to stand for long periods, walk, and sit.
  • Ability to see small objects.
  • Good eye-hand coordination.
  • Ability to hear normal sounds with background noises.
  • Ability to concentrate on moderate detail with some interruption.
  • Ability to relate specific ideas generally, several at a time.
  • Ability to remember multiple tasks given at one time or over a period of time.
  • Subject to electrical and biohazards.
  • Ability to work under stressful conditions.
  • Exposure to communicable diseases and/or bodily fluids.

Responsibilities

  • Operate equipment and perform all procedures at a technical level without direct supervision.
  • Apply knowledge of patient transfers and positioning techniques.
  • Utilize knowledge of quality patient care and patient restraint devices.
  • Work overtime and be on-call as needed.
  • Demonstrate understanding of age-specific developmental issues for all patient age groups.
  • Communicate openly, accurately, and responsively, both orally and in writing, individually and in groups.
  • Maintain ethical and professional conduct.
  • Verify correct patient by armband and medical record number.
  • Review patient charts to verify physician's orders, making corrections and additions if applicable.
  • Explain procedures thoroughly to patients and families, and obtain necessary consent forms.
  • Coordinate inpatient procedures with scheduled outpatients to reduce waiting times and assign priority.
  • Ensure proper patient positioning to obtain good quality images for radiologist's interpretation.
  • Make knowledge-based adjustments to imaging procedures and equipment to safely perform examinations.
  • Perform all procedures according to established protocols.
  • Annotate patient information on images.
  • Review each examination for technical and diagnostic accuracy.
  • Present all relevant information and completed exams to the radiologist.
  • Record and track procedures.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of ancillary equipment.
  • Maintain accurate records.
  • Perform all other necessary tasks and responsibilities.
