About The Position

Under the direct supervision of the Director of Acute Clinical Operation Surgical and Outpatient Services, the Outpatient Services and Float Registered Nurse is responsible for providing comprehensive nursing care to outpatient infusion and therapy patients. This includes assessment, administration of prescribed treatments and medications, patient monitoring, education, and coordination of care to ensure safe, high-quality clinical outcomes. The role involves coordinating care with Rural Health Clinic staff and providers for continuity of treatment and effective communication, collaborating with outpatient scheduling to arrange appointments and optimize patient flow, and tracking patient appointments to ensure continuity of care. Responsibilities also include preparing patient charts, conducting pre-therapy and infusion phone calls, and coordinating medication availability. Additionally, the nurse will provide cross-coverage within Perioperative Services and Acute Care Nursing as needed, demonstrating flexibility across multiple clinical settings.

Requirements

  • A graduate of an accredited school of nursing with current license as a Registered Nurse in the state of California.
  • Current BLS/CPR certification.
  • ACLS/PALS within 6 months of hire.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Competent in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Proficiency in venipuncture and vascular access devices.
  • Strong pharmacology knowledge, specifically regarding side effects and dosage calculations.
  • Exceptional patient assessment and critical thinking skills to manage acute reactions.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Compassion and excellent communication skills to support patients undergoing long-term or intense treatment.
  • Two (2) years minimum experience as Registered Nurse in the Acute Care hospital setting.
  • Experience with the use of an electronic health record.

Responsibilities

  • Providing comprehensive nursing care to outpatient infusion and therapy patients.
  • Administering prescribed treatments and medications.
  • Monitoring patients and providing education.
  • Coordinating care with Rural Health Clinic staff and providers.
  • Collaborating with outpatient scheduling to arrange appointments and optimize patient flow.
  • Tracking patient appointments, no shows, and rescheduled visits.
  • Preparing patient charts and conducting pre-therapy and infusion phone calls.
  • Coordinating medication availability with the Medication Room Coordinator.
  • Providing cross-coverage within Perioperative Services and Acute Care Nursing as needed.
  • Following policies and procedures and demonstrating ability to access online manuals and references.
  • Completing chart prep and pre-procedure/infusion phone calls for increased compliance and accountability for treatment and continuity of care.
  • Transferring learned scientific knowledge into practical application in applying the nursing process.
  • Completing nursing assessment and screening upon patient arrival to receive therapy.
  • Interpreting assessment information and formulating nursing diagnosis.
