About The Position

Under the supervision of the Practice Manager, Rehab Supervisor, and licensed therapists, the Rehab Aide (Hospital Assistant 2) assists in the delivery of care to patients in the practice, providing both direct and indirect support. This role involves performing a variety of personal care and basic clinical procedures to ensure positive care outcomes. The aide will collect data on assigned patient care and review of systems to support specialty care services, including physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech-language pathology. They are required to learn and assist in procedures and adhere to UCSF's Telephone and House Standards. The Rehabilitative Aide actively participates in departmental and organizational programs, including performance improvement activities, inservices, and staff development.

Requirements

  • High School graduation and two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • This position requires flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations.
  • Prior clinical based experience requiring interaction with patients.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to recognize signs of distress.
  • Possession of or proven eligibility for CPR certification.
  • Basic computer skills in word processing and online communication.
  • Possession of excellent interpersonal, time management, problem solving, and self-initiation skills.
  • Current American Heart Association BLS-CPR certification.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior outpatient patient care experience working with sports medicine, orthopedic and neurologic patients in an interdisciplinary team.
  • Prior experience working in an academic medical center environment.
  • College degree in a related field.
  • Holds advanced certifications such as ATC, CSCS, or other relevant professional certification.
  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology.
  • Ability to use Excel.
  • Knowledge of rehab equipment including modalities, Alter-G, TRX, treadmill, body weight harness.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors patient flow in and out of the clinic, supports patient safe transport to and from therapy, and may room the patient.
  • Utilizes ApeX for monitoring patient flow, safety and communication within the scope of practice of Rehab aide.
  • Assists therapists (PT/OT/SLP) in preparation for evaluations, treatment, procedures, equipment and patient care activities.
  • Acts as chaperone as needed for therapists.
  • Notifies therapists of patient delays and service issues.
  • Advocates for patients by helping facilitate therapist and clinic punctuality.
  • Communicates therapist delays to front office team and assists patients with issues and complaints utilizing conflict management skills.
  • Shares pertinent information and observations with other health team members.
  • Communicates effectively and efficiently with patients, families, department staff, managers and other UCSF personnel.
  • Demonstrates effective time management skills in all aspects of position including patient care activities and clerical duties within a standard workday.
  • Responsible for the maintenance of equipment including compliance checks, ordering, stocking and tracking of equipment.
  • Maintains clean, well-stocked treatment rooms and areas, including gyms.
  • Maintenance of equipment and supply standards as directed by therapists or appropriate supervisor.
  • Assists with clerical duties.
  • Assists with reception duties.
  • Performs other relevant duties as needed.
  • Participates in department improvement activities, staff inservice education program, staff, discipline and area meetings.
  • Contributes to the goals of the department by participating in special projects, committees, etc.
  • Represents the department as a professional through behaviors exhibited in communication, organization, accountability, responsibility and integrity.
  • Participates in orientation and training of new staff.
  • May seek appropriate opportunities for ongoing education.
