About The Position

The Outpatient Registered Nurse CAP 1 is an entry-level designation in the Clinical Advancement Program. The RN is accountable for providing and coordinating clinically competent care—including assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation—for an assigned group of patients. The role is part of the End Stage Kidney Disease health care team and contributes to clinical decision-making, patient and family education, leadership functions, and quality improvement activities that support patient outcomes and facility operations. Duties are performed in accordance with Fresenius Kidney Care policies, procedures, nursing practice standards, and applicable state and federal regulations. The RN works under a Supervisor’s direction and with guidance from a Clinical Educator, Preceptor, or other Registered Nurses. The position may provide oversight of patient care staff after the stated training and experience requirements are met.

Requirements

Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
Current appropriate state licensure.
Current CPR BLS certification or successful completion of CPR BLS certification.
Meet the practice requirements in the state of employment.
Entry-level RN designation for candidates with less than 2 years of nephrology nursing experience as a Registered Nurse.
To provide assigned oversight as Team Leader or designated Nurse in Charge: successfully complete all Fresenius Kidney Care education and training requirements for new employees, have at least 9 months of RN experience, and have at least 3 months of chronic or acute hemodialysis experience as an RN.
Ability to perform direct patient care involving regular heavy lifting, moving patients, and assisting with ambulation; assistance from equipment or coworkers may be available.
Ability to stand for frequent, prolonged periods and bend over.
Ability, occasionally with assistance, to move machines and equipment weighing up to 200 pounds and lift chemical and water solutions weighing up to 30 pounds to a height of 5 feet.
May be exposed to infectious and contagious diseases or materials.
May be required to travel to training sites or other facilities.

Nice To Haves

Chronic or acute hemodialysis experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

Collect and analyze patient data before, during, and after hemodialysis; document findings, adjust treatment plans as indicated, and notify appropriate clinical personnel or the Physician as needed.
Assess and document patients’ and families’ basic learning needs and provide initial and ongoing education.
Coordinate and provide the daily delivery of safe and effective hemodialysis therapy in collaboration with patient care and ancillary staff.
Administer prescribed medications or medications under approved algorithms, and document medical justification and effectiveness.
Initiate or assist with emergency response measures.
Serve as a resource for the health care team and participate in staff training and new staff orientation as assigned.
Ensure laboratory specimens are collected, processed, and shipped correctly; reschedule missed or insufficient collections.
Identify expected outcomes and document and update nursing assessments and plans of care in collaboration with the Interdisciplinary Team.
Ensure patients are aware of transplant and treatment modality options.
Complete Clinical Advancement Program requirements to advance.
Perform other duties assigned by the Supervisor.
Provide oversight of Patient Care Technicians, LPNs/LVNs, or RNs as Team Leader or designated Nurse in Charge after meeting the stated training and experience requirements.
