About The Position

This role is for a Medical Support Specialist (Plasma Center Nurse) at BioLife Plasma Services, a subsidiary of Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Ltd. The primary focus is on ensuring the safety and eligibility of plasma donors, collecting high-quality plasma for life-changing medicines, and supporting plasma center operations. The position involves determining donor eligibility, managing adverse events, reviewing lab results, and notifying donors of unsuitable results. The Medical Support Specialist works under the guidance of the Center Manager and Center Physician, adhering to regulations and company SOPs. They also support environmental, health, and safety (EHS) initiatives.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduate equivalent of a recognized educational nursing program with state requirements.
  • Currently licensed or certified in the state where responsibilities will be assigned: Registered Nurse (RN), Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA).
  • Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and AED certification.
  • Fulfill state requirements for basic IV therapy.
  • Satisfactorily complete the FDA approved training requirements for BioLife Medical Support Specialist.
  • Two years in a clinical or hospital setting.

Responsibilities

  • Determine donor eligibility, including managing informed consent, AIDS education, confidential self-exclusion, medical history interviews, acceptance requirements, physical examinations, blood testing, and reviewing Serological Protein Electrophoresis (SPE).
  • Evaluate donor reactions and manage medical emergencies according to SOPs, including following standing orders and coordinating donor transport to emergency care facilities.
  • Refer to the Center Physician or Medical Affairs for guidance on unacceptable findings, medical or technical issues, and donor safety and eligibility.
  • Support Hepatitis B and Seasonal Flu vaccination programs for employees.
  • Manage employee incidents and determine the need for further evaluation by occupational health/ER.
  • Act as a Pandemic Coordinator when authorized by EHS and support investigations related to pandemic threats.
