The Outpatient Lab Service Technician performs various specimen collections and Point of Care testing for patients of all ages to aid in diagnosis and treatment. This role requires accuracy in patient identification, specimen integrity, and labeling, as well as excellent customer interaction skills in a fast-paced environment. The technician will also be responsible for training, educating, and mentoring staff, troubleshooting problems, and participating in special projects. Individuals hired for this position must complete two years in the role before being eligible to transfer to other positions within Mayo Clinic. Visa sponsorship is not available, and this position does not participate in the F-1 STEM OPT extension program.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • A graduate of a phlebotomy training program that provides clinical rotation OR 3 months of phlebotomy work experience is required.
  • A resume needs to be included for your application to be considered.
  • Foreign trained lab personnel provide a detailed equivalency High School evaluation to include US equivalent degree at the applicant's expense.
  • DLMP employees that have been in their current lab/position less than 2 years must attach early release approval from their supervisor.
  • Non-DLMP internal applicants that have been in their current department/position for less than one year must attach early release approval from the supervisor is required.

Responsibilities

  • Performs venous, capillary, and line collections, and Point of Care (POC) testing of all ages to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of patients.
  • Acts as a subject matter expert on instructing patients with collections of various specimen types.
  • Performs all processes and procedures according to protocol.
  • Responsible for accurate patient identification, specimen integrity and sample labeling.
  • Interacts with customers in a pleasant, efficient and cooperative manner.
  • Performs work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Works cooperatively with peers, gives and receives constructive feedback.
  • Responsible for training, educating and mentoring new and existing staff, troubleshooting and resolving problems.
  • Must be able to prioritize work, accommodate scheduling adjustments, and have good decision-making skills.
  • Must maintain a professional image at all times.
  • Participates on special projects as assigned by the management team and serves as a resource to others.
  • May be required to attend the Mayo Clinic phlebotomy training program.
  • Individuals hired to this position are required to complete 2 years in this position before becoming eligible to transfer to other positions within Mayo Clinic.
