About The Position

MercyOne North Iowa is seeking an Infusion RN to join their Oncology clinic team. This part-time, day shift position involves providing outpatient injections and infusions, including chemotherapy, anti-cancer drugs, cardiac medications, and COVID-related infusions. The role includes directing and guiding patient and family education, caring for a variety of infusion patients, and practicing within professional nursing standards. Requirements

  • Current RN license in the state of Iowa.
  • Must complete and successfully pass ACLS certification within 6 months of hire.
  • Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) courses: Cancer Basics and Chemotherapy Biotherapy: Fundamentals of Administration course(s) and successfully complete Chemotherapy Skills Checklists prior to administering chemotherapy.
  • After 9 months of employment, must successfully complete the ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy Biotherapy Certificate course, and renew every 2 years.
  • Having a current ACLS certification, or willing to obtain certification within 6 months of hire AND completing the necessary cardiac dysrhythmias and management courses within 3 months of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Chemotherapy and cardiac drug administration experience preferred.
  • A minimum of 4 years of experience in an oncology inpatient or outpatient health care setting preferred.
  • Prefer minimum of 4 years of experience in a health care setting, inpatient, outpatient, home care, hospice or clinic experience, all possess transferable skills or knowledge valuable to the Cancer Center.
  • Strongly preferred OCN certification within 2 years of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Accepts responsibility and accountability for the delivery of care through the use of the nursing process.
  • Provides outpatient injections/infusions (including chemotherapy and other anti-cancer drugs, cardiac, and outpatient COVID related infusions) in the designated outpatient infusion areas.
  • Directs and guides patient and family education.
  • Cares for all types of infusion patients, including oncology/hematology, cardiac, COVID, and all other outpatient infusions while maintaining professional nursing standards.
  • Practices nursing within the MercyOne North Iowa professional nursing practice plan.
  • Provides or facilitates learning opportunities to meet the educational needs of the patient and family by assessing the learning needs and formulating and initiating a teaching plan to meet those needs.
  • Collaborates with the patient and family to identify complex teaching needs.
  • Functions as a resource for department staff.
