About The Position

The Outpatient Coder will abstract data from medical files, maintain required statistics, and assist with quality assurance and utilization review functions. This role involves applying appropriate modifiers and reporting to the Director of Coding/Reimbursement. The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent and 2 years of hospital experience with inpatient acute care and outpatient accounts. Certification from AHIMA or AAPC is preferred. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background check, lab work, and immunization records.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 2 years hospital experience with inpatient acute care as well as outpatient accounts, such as SDC/Interventional radiology and other outpatient accounts as assigned
  • Ability to talk to patient and/or staff
  • Ability to hear patients and/or alarms
  • Vision (near and/or far)
  • Ability to distinguish colors

Nice To Haves

  • American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) or American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) Certification preferred
