Job Summary Summary Under the direction of a staff pharmacist and/or pharmacy leadership team, the Certified Pharmacy Technician I performs routine technical and operational duties to support safe, timely pharmacy services in accordance with established policies and applicable regulations. Responsibilities include preparing, packaging, labeling, and distributing unit-dose medications, outpatient prescriptions, and stock orders; delivering medications and supplies to patient care areas; and supporting proper storage, rotation, and inventory practices. The technician documents work and uses pharmacy information systems and departmental tools as trained and may be assigned to central pharmacy and/or specialized areas based on operational needs. The role also includes auditing medication storage areas, escalating discrepancies, and handling controlled substances per departmental policy. The technician may assist with onboarding and training of junior staff and participate in departmental projects and quality and safety initiatives as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required
  • Pharmacy Technician [State License] - required
  • Pharmacy Technician 0-1 year required
  • Ability to read, interpret, and follow verbal and written instructions, including department policies and procedures
  • Understand HIPAA privacy rules and will use discretion handling patient related information
  • Ability to adhere to safety requirements for handling non-hazardous and hazardous medications in accordance with organizational policies and regulatory requirements
  • Proficient with math calculations associated with ass signed responsibilities
  • Ability to distinguish routine functions from those requiring a pharmacist's professional judgment
  • Ability to work with sustained attention and care on routine, repetitive tasks

  • Pharmacy Technician Certification [CPhT] - Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) preferred

Responsibilities

  • Under the direction of a staff pharmacist and/or pharmacy leadership team, follows established policies and procedures to perform a variety of routine support tasks that are integral to the operation of the pharmacy department.
  • Demonstrates familiarity with pharmacy practice settings, legal requirements and limitations, prescription information and calculations, drug identification and generic equivalents, drug manufacturing, packaging and labeling information, and proper drug handling and storage practices.
  • Supports the operations of the pharmacy and ensures the safe and efficient delivery of medications and healthcare products.
  • Utilizes area-specific technology, including but not limited to robotics, automation, software, equipment, and information systems.
  • Demonstrates professionalism and effectively communicates with patients and caregivers to gather information and/or triage inquiries.
  • Audits medication storage areas utilizing data collection tools, as applicable.
