About The Position
Pali Institute is seeking passionate individuals to join their team as Outdoor Education Instructors for the Spring 2027 season. This role offers the opportunity to gain knowledge and experience while working in the beautiful mountains of Southern California. Pali Institute provides offsite housing, food, and utilities for its instructors. The position involves teaching outdoor education, science, and leadership classes, co-teaching and solo teaching using accredited lesson plans, and providing overnight supervision for up to 11 children for 2-4 nights a week. Instructors will also manage groups during downtime, organizing activities like gaga ball, hikes, and other camp games.
Requirements
- College degree required or program experience equivalent.
- Prior experience working with children (preferably in grades 4th-12th).
- Ability to work in a team environment with 100+ other staff.
- Flexibility and ability to adjust to changes quickly.
- Ability to handle concerns and issues in a constructive manner.
- Up to 4 overnights in cabin with students per week.
Nice To Haves
- Prior camp counselor experience is a plus.
- Experienced in the camping and/or experiential education fields.
- Able to have fun with kids, laugh at yourself and be silly!
- Passionate about Science, Outdoor Education and/or Leadership Development.
- Comfortable and confident teaching and instruction small and large groups of students.
- Willing to learn and grow through constructive feedback, in a timely manner.
Responsibilities
- Ensure the safety of children while teaching outdoor education, science, and leadership classes.
- Co-teach and solo teach using an accredited lesson plan.
- Provide in-cabin overnight supervision for up to 11 children, 2-4 nights a week.
- Manage groups during cabin downtime, organizing games and activities.
- Work as both cabin instructors and field instructors.
