About The Position

Outdoor Classroom is seeking dynamic and dedicated educators to join their team as Outdoor Education Instructors. This role is ideal for individuals passionate about the environment, teaching, and the outdoors, especially those considering careers in education, recreation, or conservation. As the largest outdoor and environmental education program in the northeastern US, Outdoor Classroom focuses on place-based education, emphasizing science, nature, and social-emotional learning. They provide engaging outdoor learning experiences for elementary and middle school students during overnight field trips, hosting hundreds of schools at seven sites across New England each spring and fall.

Requirements

  • Strong desire to work outdoors.
  • Enjoy working with elementary and middle school students.
  • Positive attitude.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team.
  • Comfortable walking 3 to 5 miles per day with students.
  • Ability to work long days (breakfast through evening programs, with some breaks during the day).

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree is preferred, but not required.
  • If resume does not show experience working with children, include a cover letter detailing interest in the position.

Responsibilities

  • Leading groups of 12-14 students through their day and evening activities.
  • Facilitating hands-on lessons designed to foster critical thinking and explore connections between the natural and human-made world.
  • Leading favorite staff-led activities such as team-building exercises (low ropes), aquatic biology, wood carving, outdoor cooking, and night hikes.
