About The Position

Pali Institute is seeking passionate individuals to join their team as Outdoor Education Instructors for the Fall '26 season. This role offers a unique opportunity to gain experience while teaching outdoor education, science, and leadership classes in the Southern California mountains. The position includes comprehensive compensation, housing, food, and utilities, with opportunities for advancement and professional development. Instructors are responsible for the safety of children, co-teaching and solo teaching accredited lessons, and managing groups of up to 11 children during overnight stays and downtime activities.

Requirements

  • College degree or equivalent program experience.
  • Prior experience working with children (preferably in grades 4th-12th).
  • Ability to work in a team environment with over 100 other staff.
  • Flexibility and ability to adjust to changes quickly.
  • Ability to handle concerns and issues in a constructive manner.
  • Work as both cabin instructors and field instructors.
  • Typical week requires up to 4 overnights in cabin with students.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior camp counselor experience.
  • Experience in the camping and/or experiential education fields.
  • Ability to have fun with kids, laugh at yourself and be silly!
  • Passionate about Science, Outdoor Education and/or Leadership Development.
  • Comfortable and confident teaching and instruction small and large groups of students.
  • Willing to learn and grow through constructive feedback, in a timely manner.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the safety of children while teaching outdoor education, science, and leadership classes.
  • Co-teach and solo teach using an accredited lesson plan.
  • Provide in-cabin overnight supervision for up to 11 children, 2-4 nights a week.
  • Manage cabin groups during downtime, including organizing games and hikes.
