About The Position

Y.O.U. seeks volunteers to help with our Afterschool, Academic Year program. This is an exciting opportunity for individuals who want to enhance their understanding of youth development, impact youth lives, and/or gain community service credit. Volunteers will work with youth at our school site programs. Opportunities for those interested in STEAM could be assigned to our MakerSpace located at Y.O.U. Headquarters. The program runs from September 14, 2026, to December 11, 2026, with volunteer hours available Monday through Friday, 2 pm to 6 pm. Consistent hours are requested, but open for consideration.

Requirements

  • 18 years or older
  • Commit to volunteering during the summer session with a consistent schedule
  • Complete a fingerprint background check and other requirements
  • Complete Mandated Reporter Training
  • Proven record of dependability
  • Have a passion for Y.O.U.’s mission
  • Possess an open, nonjudgmental attitude

Responsibilities

  • Assist summer staff in facilitating activities for a group of up to 15 students through social, emotional, and academic enrichment programs designed to support elementary or middle school students.
  • Support planning and delivery of lessons that focus on literacy skill development, sports, STEAM, social-emotional enrichment, and healthy relationships.
  • Provide support during field trips and other off-site activities.
  • Build positive relationships with youth that support their success and well-being.
  • Supervise youth during program hours in a safe, sensitive, developmentally-appropriate, positive manner.
  • Help youth build healthy, positive relationships with each other, with adults, and with their families.
  • Demonstrate professional behavior that supports team efforts and enhances team behavior, performance, and productivity.
  • Support Y.O.U. staff during summer program.
