About The Position

The Medical Assistant II (MA II) is an experienced unlicensed healthcare professional who performs routine technical services within the medical practice settings under the supervision of the physician and the department’s leadership staff. The associate in this role possesses knowledge and skills to function efficiently in the back office and has a solid understanding of clinic operations. While supporting back-office clinical operations, the primary focus of this role is front-office coordination, including insurance authorizations and verification, communication between staff and patients, coordinating appointment details regarding the sleep lab, and providing patient education. The associate functions independently within the scope of their duties and may assist with additional initiatives as directed by management.

Requirements

  • Minimum three (3) years of back-office MA experience with at least 1 year in a pediatric setting
  • High School Diploma/GED or equivalent
  • Graduate of a vocational school having successfully completed requirements for MA
  • Knowledge and ability to provide appropriate patient care depending on age, cultural, and spiritual needs
  • Ability to set goals and judge results in accordance with the highest standards
  • Advance care through development of new ideas and technology
  • Promote teamwork to achieve CHOC's mission, understanding, and exceeding patient and family expectations
  • Effectively solve patient care and operational problems
  • Ability to speak, read, write, and understand English effectively at a level appropriate for the safe and effective performance of the job
  • Knowledge of computer systems and software used in functional area
  • Proficient in medical terminology
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Medical Assistant Diploma

Nice To Haves

  • At least 1 year in a pediatric setting
  • Certification in Medical Assisting including Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Registered Medical Assistant (RMA), or National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA)
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish
