About The Position

Under the residency/fellowship director, occupational therapy fellowship preceptor, and department supervisor direction, the OT Fellow provides professional patient care and practices occupational therapy by evaluating, planning, implementing, and documenting treatment. Assesses, plans, and carries out programs of purposeful activity designed to assist in the rehabilitation of medically necessary patients as prescribed by the physician. Bases selection of activities from physician's prescription, history, evaluation findings, experience, and interests of the patient; plans and directs special diversional or educational events for patients. Instructs and collaborates with occupational therapy assistants regarding treatment procedures to be utilized. Supervises Occupational Therapy Assistants (COTA/OTA) in carrying out an OT program or selected parts of it. Completes all documentation and billing in a timely and acceptable manner. All care is provided in accordance with the philosophy and essential functions of the rehabilitation department, the Joint Commission, State Practice Acts, and the American Occupational Therapy Association.

Requirements

  • Must be a graduate of an accredited school of Occupational Therapy, with an Occupational Therapy degree as follows: Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree if graduated prior 1/1/2002; Master's degree required if graduated after 1/1/2002; International Candidates must be a graduate of an accredited school and possess a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy.
  • Must hold or be eligible to receive an Occupational Therapy license in the state where services will be provided.
  • Must be certified in CPR or must become certified within the first 90 days of employment.
  • Must maintain all certifications and licensure according to the expiration date.
  • If assigned to drive a company vehicle, a valid driver’s license is required.
  • If assigned to drive a personal vehicle, proof of insurance is required in addition to a valid driver’s license.
  • Clinical experience within an educational training program.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds, assist with 100 pounds and push up to 300 pounds.
  • Must be willing to work at other locations as assigned.

Nice To Haves

  • A Masters degree is preferred.
  • American Occupational Therapy Association membership preferred.
