About The Position

The Osprey Challenge Course and Climb Wall Coordinator position is an integral part of the Department of Recreation and Wellness. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Eco Adventure, this position is responsible for supporting the organization, promotion, supervision, and evaluation of the comprehensive Osprey Challenge Park (comprised of the Challenge Course and Sky Park), Osprey Cliff (climb wall) in the Student Wellness Complex, and larger slate of Eco Adventure programs (includes support for Eco Camp). This position includes a supervisory and program management role, responsible for hiring, training, supervision, scheduling and evaluation of a large student staff working with the assigned program areas.

Requirements

  • Master's or Bachelor's degree and 2+ years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219.
  • Develop and maintain records and documentation (such as manuals, checklists, logs, etc.).
  • Support department risk management plans and directives.
  • Work with the RecWell Business Office team on all budget related aspects.
  • Contribute to department program reporting and strategic planning.
  • Be able to proficiently work with various web-based and desktop programs for scheduling, staff record management, department risk management and other program or facility needs.
  • Serve on RecWell committees as requested.
  • Be able to represent RecWell and Eco Adventure within university committees.
  • Have background in, or be willing to become a trained naturalist to incorporate environmental and outdoor conservation elements into programming.
  • Be willing and able to work with a wide range of ages, from youth in camps, through to all stages of adulthood working with students, professional staff, and guests.
  • Assist on climbing and technical Student Adventure Trips as needed.
  • Assist seasonally with camp tasks as needed.
  • This position requires a background check.
  • This position may also require a credit check.
  • The holder of this position is designated as a “Responsible Employee" pursuant to their role under Title IX.
  • This position has been designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA).
  • All positions designated as CSAs are required to complete an online or in-person training session.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and market new and ongoing programs for the student body on the Osprey Challenge Park.
  • Evaluate, plan and implement team building programs.
  • Develop individualized programs for student groups and campus organizations based on their needs and goals for their activity.
  • Oversee all reservations for the Osprey Challenge Park; meet with groups to set program goals.
  • Recruit, hire, train, supervise and evaluate all challenge course staff.
  • Work with immediate supervisor and RecWell Business Office on program budget, including revenue goals for off-campus programming.
  • Obtain and maintain Challenge Course certifications for high and low ropes courses and facilitator training.
  • Perform and keep inspection records of the OCC structure on a routine basis and interface with immediate supervisor on needed equipment or repairs.
  • Keep inventory and gear inspection records for all program equipment.
  • Work with immediate supervisor to develop and maintain a safety plan and procedures manual for OCC operation.
  • Responsible for program management / staff supervision / budget / risk management roles for the climbing wall program in accordance with Osprey Challenge Course responsibilities described, relative to the size and scope of this program.
