About The Position

The Fiber Optic Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of outside plant (OSP) fiber optic cable systems, including both aerial and underground infrastructure. This role supports reliable network performance through high-quality workmanship, technical expertise, and strict adherence to safety standards. The position requires working outdoors in varying conditions and collaborating with field crews and supervisors.

Requirements

  • Fiber optic cable installation and maintenance (aerial and/or underground)
  • OSP (Outside Plant) construction and telecommunications work
  • Fiber splicing, termination, and testing
  • General construction and telecom installation experience

Nice To Haves

  • Valid Class A CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) – preferred
  • Experience in aerial and/or underground fiber construction (candidates with either background are encouraged to apply)
  • Strong technical knowledge of fiber optic systems, splicing methods, and testing equipment
  • Experience working with construction tools and telecom equipment
  • Ability to lift, carry, and handle heavy materials
  • Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions and terrain
  • Attention to detail for precise cable handling and installation
  • Strong teamwork skills and ability to work effectively in a crew environment

Responsibilities

  • Install fiber optic cable systems in both aerial (pole lines) and underground (trenched or bored) environments.
  • Perform cable placement activities, including pulling, stringing, and securing fiber optic cables to required specifications.
  • Inspect existing infrastructure for wear, damage, or performance issues and perform necessary repairs or replacements.
  • Conduct maintenance activities such as re-tensioning aerial cables and repairing underground lines to prevent service interruptions.
  • Perform fiber splicing and termination, connecting cable segments and integrating them into active networks.
  • Use testing equipment to verify signal integrity, troubleshoot issues, and ensure compliance with industry standards.
  • Operate equipment such as bucket trucks, trenchers, or directional bore support tools as needed.
  • Maintain a strong focus on job site safety, adhering to all company and regulatory safety requirements.
  • Collaborate with crew members and follow direction from lead or senior technicians.
  • Maintain tools, vehicles, and equipment in safe and working condition.
  • Complete daily reports, documentation, and test results accurately and on time.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
