About The Position

Metronet's OSP Field Supervisor is on the frontline, ensuring the safe and accurate construction of Metronet’s network according to standards and specifications. This role is crucial for building communities and maintaining customer satisfaction. The OSP Field Supervisor acts in various capacities, including inspector, investigator, leader, and manager of construction crews, as well as an ambassador to resolve community complaints. They must possess the necessary skills, experience, and behavioral traits to handle diverse responsibilities effectively.

Requirements

  • A High School Diploma or general education degree (GED); or three (3) to five (5) years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be detailed oriented and possess excellent organizational skills.
  • Related quality control and/or outside aerial plant construction experience.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
  • Works well under pressure.
  • Ability to walk long distances, and potentially over uneven and/or less than ideal ground conditions each day with contractors.
  • Capable of working in all temperatures, climates, and weather conditions while maintaining safe work zone practices.
  • Must have excellent communication and diplomacy skills.
  • Committed to and driven by quality and safety.
  • Ability to distinguish between general audience information and confidential information and to maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and recognize which tasks are more urgent or require more attention.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver license and a clean driving record (no DUIs or serious traffic violations).

Responsibilities

  • Maintain understanding of Metronet's specifications, standard practices, and safety protocols.
  • Conduct walkouts and inspect aerial fiber cable placement on poles and splice points, as well as underground conduit and handhole placement, ensuring quality and correct installation per technical and construction specifications.
  • Approve all completed aerial work that meets Metronet's standards.
  • Manage the OSP Construction Tracker.
  • Monitor the approved budget for assigned work orders.
  • Respond to utility strikes, conduct investigations, and complete documentation within 24 hours. Retrain contractors or terminate them if necessary.
  • Conduct weekly audits of contractor safety, construction, and quality practices.
  • Identify contractor training needs and arrange for necessary training.
  • Ensure aerial line contractors hold weekly safety and communications tailgate meetings with their employees and assist in scheduling periodic damage prevention safety meetings in the employees' most fluent language.
