About The Position

We are seeking an experienced OSP Copper Splicer to join our team. This role involves splicing, rearranging, and terminating copper cables in various environments, installing and sealing closures, and testing, troubleshooting, and repairing copper cable systems. The ideal candidate will be able to read and interpret technical drawings, locate and clear cable faults, and prepare cables for splicing and maintenance. Proficiency with specialized testing equipment and maintaining accurate work records is essential.

Requirements

  • At least five years of experience in splicing, troubleshooting, repairing, and testing copper cable.
  • Four years of experience in the installation and/or repair of copper cable and other related telecommunications equipment.
  • Awareness of all Safety regulations for Line Companies; knowledge of all Utility, N.E.S.C., DOT, and OSHA Safety Rules.
  • Ability to distinguish the difference between colors.
  • Industry-recognized certification in splicing and testing copper cable.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
  • Fine motor skills and visual acuity are required for success.
  • May need to respond in stressful or urgent situations.
  • High School Diploma/GED

  • Vehicle and Mileage (2 options): 1) Techs provide their own truck and tools, and received standard mileage from office to jobs sites. 2) Techs are provided truck and tools. Trucks stay parked in SECC Yard every night/weekends. Company gas card is provided.

Responsibilities

  • Splice, rearrange, and terminate copper cables in aerial, buried/underground environments.
  • Install and seal closures on copper cables to industry standards.
  • Test, troubleshoot, and repair copper cable systems, including outside plant facilities, wire, terminals, and loop carrier electronics.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Locate and clear cable faults, ensuring proper function and reliability.
  • Prepare cables for splicing, pressurization, and long-term maintenance; monitor air flow and pressure in underground cables.
  • Use specialized testing equipment (volt/ohm meters, transmission measuring sets, etc.) to diagnose and correct system defects.
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed, repairs, and test results.
  • Interpret construction prints and splice cables from end-to-end and terminate at both ends (backbone or laterals).
  • Perform acceptance testing and documentation of newly installed cable.
  • Perform cutovers of cable due to defects or to rerouting requirements without service interruptions.
  • Position weatherproof closures and perform flash testing to ensure proper seals.
  • Update customers of entry to private properties to access cable facilities.
  • Notify customer representatives and/or customer inspectors of any challenges or problems that may occur.
  • Set up traffic control when necessary, according to local and state requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.
