About The Position

The Orthotics Technician is a trained member of the orthopaedic team who works with all health care professionals in delivering patient care and assuming appropriate responsibilities concerning all surgical and non-surgical procedures. Key Accountabilities: Excellence in customer service, proficient in insurance verification / authorization and maintenance of patient records. Organizational skills required to maintain schedules, return phone calls and maintain stock. Essential Duties: Greets patient, informs, prepares and positions patient for procedure. Provides patient and family education. Conducts clinical interview of patients and assesses needs according to Physician's prescription. Read specifications to determine the type of device to be fabricated and the materials and tools that will be required. Applies or removes casts/splints. Make orthotic devices by bending, forming and shaping materials to prescribed specifications. Fit, test and evaluate devices on patients and make adjustments for proper fit, function and comfort. Provides patient with insurance information and financial responsibility information. Completes work orders, billing, and notes for patients. Verifies benefits, completes pre-certification and documents in patient record. Triages patient by telephone and communicates patient's needs to certified practitioner or Physician. Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED minimum education requirement
  • Computer skills including, but not limited to, MS Office suite

Nice To Haves

  • Completed courses in Anatomy, Kinesiology, Sports Medicine, Physical/Occupational Therapy and Athletic Training preferred.
  • Certified Orthotics Fitter or Athletic Trainer preferred.
  • One (1) to two (2) years experience in a clinical position preferred.
  • Certified Athletic Trainers or Occupational Therapy experience preferred.
  • Musculoskeletal anatomy and pathology preferred.
