About The Position

OP Specialty Bracing is growing and seeking a motivated, caring individual to join their team as a Care Extender/Orthotic Assistant. This role is ideal for someone who wants to make a difference in the lives of children with orthopedic conditions. OP Specialty Bracing focuses on improving the lives of children with conditions such as fractures, clubfoot, cerebral palsy, scoliosis, and plagiocephaly, working in partnership with their care teams. They offer specialized pediatric clinics, including within major children's hospitals, to ensure top-notch, kid-focused care. The company is dedicated to developing cutting-edge solutions in pediatric orthotics and prosthetics, driven by a passion for providing the best possible care. The Care Extender position involves a blend of patient care and the design and fabrication of orthotic and prosthetic devices. The individual will work under the supervision of a Certified Orthotist and/or Certified Prosthetist, assisting in increasing and improving mobility for patients with physical limitations and treating orthopedic conditions. Responsibilities include participating in patient evaluations, implementing and following up on treatment plans, adjusting devices, and fitting Off-the-Shelf devices. The role requires working effectively in a team environment, making decisions after proper training, and demonstrating a commitment to high-quality patient care within a life-changing industry. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, the ability to multi-task and re-prioritize, attention to detail, self-motivation, and discretion are essential.

Requirements

  • Minimum of High School Degree required
  • Bilingual Spanish

Nice To Haves

  • No prior orthotic experience is required—we will provide training.
  • Backgrounds in clinical or allied health settings, including cast technicians, athletic trainers, physical therapist assistants (PTAs), exercise science, physiology, kinesiology, or related fields are encouraged to apply.
  • Completion of some collegiate coursework preferred
  • Related technical experience and/or training in hands-on/mechanically oriented field, preferred
  • Experience in patient care and/or rehabilitation, preferred
  • Already COA certified highly preferred
  • Already CFO certified highly preferred
  • Anatomy & Physiology Course (can be completed during the Training Program)
  • Medical Terminology Course (can be completed during the Training Program)
  • Physics Course (can be completed during the Training Program)
  • Completion of an American Board for Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics & Pedorthics, Inc. (ABC) approved orthotic fitter pre-certification education course (can be completed during the Training Program)
  • Completion of 1,000 hours of orthotic fitting patient care experience obtained either before or after completion of the education course (can be completed during the Training Program)

Responsibilities

  • Assistance in the guided evaluation of orthoses on patients to ensure fit, function, and quality
  • Fitting, repairing and maintaining orthoses under guidance of and in consultation with the Orthotist
  • Make assigned casts, obtain measurements, model modifications, and scanning
  • Use of machinery for trimming, grinding, buffing of orthotic devices
  • Scribing of notes using Nymbl/EHR Patient software
  • Front Desk Coverage
  • Performing other duties as needed based on clinic setting
  • Performs all other duties as required.
