About The Position

The nurse director is responsible to strategize, direct, coordinate, and promote operational management to meet the needs of the organization. The director will provide oversight in accordance with evidence-based practice, acceptable standards, and hospital policies and procedures to lead and support the service line division/department. The director will facilitate, organize, and provide guidance for planning, priority setting, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of programs of patient care.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing and current licensure in the State of New York.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) required.
  • At least 7 years professional healthcare experience with 2 years in a supervisory position with progressive management responsibilities required.
  • Proven program development, project management, and personnel management experience required.
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

Nice To Haves

  • Master of Science Degree in Nursing or MBA preferred.
  • Specialty credentialing & educational degree according to clinical nursing practice specialty area preferred.
  • Maintains all licensures and certifications according to NYS regulations and specialty area requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Provides strategic and operational leadership for Orthopedic and Oncology services, ensuring alignment with organizational goals, quality standards, and growth initiatives.
  • Leads service line development efforts focused on expanding orthopedic and oncology programs, increasing patient volumes, enhancing market competitiveness, and improving patient outcomes.
  • Partners with physicians, nursing leaders, and interdisciplinary teams to drive quality improvement, patient experience, workforce development, and operational excellence across both specialty areas.
  • Oversees performance related to staffing, employee engagement, retention, throughput, patient safety, regulatory readiness, and specialty-specific quality metrics.
  • Develops and executes strategic plans that support service line growth, physician engagement, program certification opportunities, capacity management, and long-term organizational objectives.
  • Establishes and implements professional practice standards for high-quality patient care and timely outcomes.
  • Implements and communicates policies, practices, standards, and security measures for consistent operations.
  • Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, including health and safety standards.
  • Ensures quality nursing care according to the New York Nurse Practice Act and national standards.
  • Develops, monitors, and reports on continuous quality improvement activities, balancing creativity and accountability.
  • Formulates and manages annual operating and capital budgets, ensuring financial performance.
  • Establishes annual departmental goals and represents the department in community and professional activities.
