Requirements

  • Graduate of certified Orthopedic Technology program recognized by CSOT required.
  • Current membership with Canadian Society of Orthopedic Technologists required.
  • At least one year recent related experience required.
  • Knowledge of casting, suture/clip removal, asepsis, application of braces/splints/orthopedic appliances and general fracture room care.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of good body mechanics.
  • Excellent communication skills required (both verbal and written).
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities.
  • Able to work collaboratively with minimal supervision.
  • Must be responsible and accountable.
  • Commitment to continuing education.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis is required.
  • Subject to any accommodation required by applicable human rights legislation, Cambridge Memorial Hospital requires that all staff have received all required doses of a COVID-19 vaccine approved by Health Canada.
  • The successful external applicant is required to provide the applicable criminal record check, as requested by Human Resources, in accordance with federal and provincial legislation. Valid criminal record checks are in original format and dated with two months from date of conditional offer from CMH.

Responsibilities

  • Performs duties under the direction of a physician and collaborates with other members of the health care team in both the ED and Fracture Clinic.
  • Cast application, adjustment and removal.
  • Measuring and fitting patients for orthopedic devices and ambulatory aids.
  • Maintenance of orthopedic equipment.
  • Assisting physician with procedures.
  • Responsible for documentation and maintaining accurate notes.
  • Patient education.
  • Provides skin and wound care as directed.
  • Participates in on-going education/development.
