Requirements

High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Minimum of 1 year cast room / medical office experience.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Organized with the ability to prioritize and multi-task.
Reliable with patience and professionalism.
Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.
Develop and maintain effective and professional working relationships with patients, medical staff, coworkers and the public by displaying sympathy, tact and understanding.
Must be a team player with a positive attitude, adjust to various personalities, work with a diverse population, demonstrating patience and professionalism.
Able to maintain strict confidentiality on all patient issues.

Nice To Haves

Orthopedic Technician and/or ATC Certification preferred.

Responsibilities

Applies, removes, and adjusts plaster and fiberglass casts and splints in accordance with physician and/or physician assistant orders.
Applies and adjusts prefabricated splints and braces.
Assesses patient comfort as it relates to their casting or splinting.
Assists with comfort measures and notification of appropriate clinical staff members.
Removes sutures and staples.
Provides wound care and incisional dressings.
Assists physicians with clinical procedures such as the closed reduction of fractures.
Fits and trains patients to use axillary crutches and canes.
Educates patients on the care and use of orthopedic casts, splints, braces, and mobility aids.
Maintains inventory of cast room materials and places orders for supplies when necessary.
Helps train new staff members in cast room procedures.
