About The Position

The Orthopedic Technician will provide support through a variety of tasks related to patient care management, organization and communication. Maintains all applicable KHI Policies and Procedures. Requirements

High School Diploma or Equivalent
BLS through the American Heart Association
Current and Valid Registered Orthopedic Technologist Certification (due within 1 (one) year of hire)
If Medical Assist, must meet one of the following criteria: Has attended an approved medical assistant training program, a copy of the diploma or transcripts are on file, by one of the following: The Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs; or The Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools
If Medical Assist, must meet one of the following criteria: An unapproved training program and successfully passes the medical assistant examination administered by a certifying organization accredited by either the National Commission for Certifying Agencies or the American National Standards Institute and a copy of that certification is on file.
If Medical Assist, must meet one of the following criteria: Was directly supervised by the same physician, physician group, or physician assistant for a minimum of 2000 hours prior to February 2000. (Letter from physician, physician group, or physician assistant must be on file)
If Medical Assist, must meet one of the following criteria: Has completed a medical services training program of the Armed Forces of the United States and a copy of that certificate is on file.
If Medical Assist, must meet one of the following criteria: Has completed an unapproved medical assistant training program and was employed as a medical assistant after program completion, prior to February of 2000.
If LPN: Current, valid Arizona LPN license or compact state LPN/LVN license
Ability to communicate effectively with others
Ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks
Ability to maintain attention to detail
Knowledge of and ability to use computer hardware and software applications
Ability to recognize and respond appropriately to urgent/emergent situations per protocol
Knowledge of and ability to implement direct care, newborn through geriatric
Knowledge of and ability to use basic medical terminology

Nice To Haves

If LPN: Graduate of a practical or vocational nursing program
One to two years; experience as a medical assistant or LPN in a clinical outpatient setting

Responsibilities

Escorts patient to exam room and prepares patient for exam including vital signs, history, and reason for seeking care
Cross trains in data entry, balancing of accounts, charges fees and collect payments due.
Schedules/confirms appointments
Maintains and facilitates communication between patients, family and clinical staff.
Reports as necessary to Public Health at direction of provider
Maintains work area including exam rooms, supplies, medication and immunizations
Performs CLIA waived lab tests and obtains specimens
Performs proficiency testing and runs controls for waived tests
May perform venipuncture
Participates in division meetings
Responsible for patient care under the direct supervision (in the office suite or exam room) of a Physician, Physician Assistant, or Nurse Practitioner.
Applies, adjusts and removes casts, splints, immobilization devices and traction
Measures and fits patients for braces and other orthopedic devices
