About The Position

Under a physician's direction, this role involves applying and adjusting plaster casts and assembling and attaching orthopedic traction equipment and devices. The technician will assist in patient needs assessment, fitting and finishing services, and patient education regarding orthopedic equipment and cast/traction care. Responsibilities also include monitoring patient condition, documenting care, maintaining examination areas, and managing medical supplies and equipment.

High school diploma, General Equivalency Diploma (GED) or higher
ABR-OE - Credential from American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) required upon hire OR ARMA - Registered Medical Assistant through American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA) required upon hire OR CCMA - Clinical Medical Assistant Certification through National Health career Association (NHA) required upon hire OR CMA - Certified Medical Assistant through American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) required upon hire OR CMAC - Clinical Medical Assistant Certification through the American Medical Certification Association (AMCA) required upon hire OR CMAAC - Clinical Medical Administrative Assistant Certification through the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) required upon hire OR MAC - Medical Assistant Certification through the American Medical Certification Association (AMCA) required upon hire OR NCMA - National Certified Medical Assistant through National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) required upon hire OR NRCMA - Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant through National Association for Health Professionals (NAHCP) required upon hire OR RMA - Registered Medical Assistant through American Medical Technologists (AMT) required upon hire AND RMA - Registered Medical Assistant through American Allied Health (AAH) required upon hire
BLS - Certified as a Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider required within 90 days of employment in this position

Responsibilities

Assists in assessment of patient needs and fitting/finishing services of patients.
Applies and removes casts including complex casting and orthopedic splints and devices, as directed.
Applies and adjusts orthopedic devices such as braces, splints, and compression stockings, as directed.
Provides patient education in the use of orthopedic equipment and cast and traction care, as directed.
Monitors and communicates changes in patient condition.
Documents patient care given.
Maintains examination areas; assembles/disassembles equipment and instrument ensuring that equipment is available for procedures and examinations.
Maintains equipment and medical supplies, including reordering, stocking, cleaning, and troubleshooting.
Provides organizational and clerical support to facilitate optimal care and clinic operation.
