About The Position

Wellstar is seeking an Orthopedic Technician to join their team at Columbia County Medical Center. This role is crucial in providing high-quality patient care, focusing on casting, bracing, and orthotics under physician direction. The Orthopedic Technician will collaborate with orthopedic surgeons to ensure seamless patient care, including education and timely assessment of needs. They will also serve as a resource for ancillary staff, assisting with brace fitting and application, and contributing to positive patient outcomes.

Requirements

High School Diploma or GED
Successful completion of an accredited Medical Assistant Program or Registered Orthopedic Technician certification
Minimum 2 years as a Certified Medical Assistant OR 0 years experience with Registered Orthopedic Technician Certification
CMA or Registered Orthopedic Technician certification
BLS certification

Responsibilities

Provide quality care to patients requiring casting, splitting, bracing, and/or orthotics as ordered by the physician.
Assist with and monitor the proper fitting and application of pre-operative braces, crutches, and other soft goods.
Assist Patient Care Assistants/Certified Medical Assistants with suture/staple removal, dressing changes, and pin removal.
Ensure ancillary staff competency in brace fitting and application.
Assist with Ambulatory Intake, rooming patients, and completing discharge information.
Educate patients and staff on casting, bracing, pin removal, fitting, and application.
Monitor and order supplies within the allocated budget, with Ambulatory Manager sign-off on all orders.
Report and monitor shrinkage.
Potentially function as a Patient Care Assistance/CMA during staffing shortages.
Uphold and monitor Joint Commission preparation, Environment of Care readiness, and State and Federal requirements for compliance.
