Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Graduate of a Medical Assistant Program or completion of an U.S. Armed Forces medical services training program
  • Six (6) months related experience casting, splinting, traction application and various soft good applications
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support - CPR

Nice To Haves

  • Candidates who completed a program prior to February 2, 2000 can satisfy the minimum education requirements by providing evidence of direct supervision by the same physician, physician group, or physician assistant for a minimum of 2000 hours to satisfy the minimum education requirements
  • Previous MA experience
  • Electronic Medical Record (EMR) experience
  • Previous experience in designated specialty
  • Bilingual skills

Responsibilities

  • Assist orthopedic specialists with casts, splints, and braces for patient recovery and comfort.
  • Prepare patients, educate them on device care, and ensure comfort during applications/removals.
  • Maintain equipment and document patient interactions.
  • Maintain hospital standards of zero tolerance for mislabeled specimens and collect laboratory specimens according to hospital protocol.
  • Assist the nurse/physician during examinations, treatments, and procedures as requested.
  • Retrieve necessary equipment and supplies.
  • Perform follow-up actions as directed.
  • Document clinically relevant findings in the patient's record according to hospital protocols and clinical protocols.
  • Monitor and record patient vital signs, weight, positioning, ADL's I&O activity and blood glucose readings per RN instructions, hospital protocols, and standards of care.
