Applies and/or removes orthopedic traction or orthopedic appliances. This role is more than a career, it's a calling. The Orthopedic Technician Certified will apply and/or remove various orthopedic traction and orthopedic appliances for patients requiring temporary immobilization or stabilization devices. This includes applying upper and lower extremity casts, understanding and applying aseptic techniques in dressing changes, and applying, adjusting, and removing all common orthopedic devices. The technician will ensure the safe, economic, efficient, and intended function of all supplies and equipment, report the need for preventive maintenance or repair of malfunctioning equipment, and maintain appropriate inventory and utilize supplies efficiently. They will also maintain competency and enhance skills in application and removal of stabilization devices, attend educational programs, answer and route incoming calls, and schedule surgeries with the hospital orthopedic surgery unit. The role requires a constant state of alertness and safe manner of work, with other duties as assigned.
