About The Position

The Orthopedic Technician assists physicians in the application and management of casts and braces. This role provides instruction and assistance to resident physicians in cast, splint, and brace application, and educates patients on the proper care of casts, braces, etc. The technician also provides instructions to rotating medical students, assists with orders, and maintains an adequate stock of orthopedic supplies. Requirements

  • High School Diploma, GED
  • One (1) year direct patient care experience
  • Proof of legal authority to work in the United States on the first day of employment

  • Medical Assistant or Orthopedic Tech experience

Responsibilities

  • Educates patients regarding casts, splints, or braces following application
  • Collects and records patients' medical history and acquires patient vital signs
  • Advises patients regarding treatment, medication, and specific physician instructions
  • Collects lab samples and completes documentation for submission to lab
  • Monitors inventory of and obtains necessary supplies and/or equipment for patient care in orthopedic unit
  • Performs other duties as assigned
