About The Position

The Gallup Indian Medical Center (GIMC) is a 99-bed hospital located in Gallup, New Mexico, on the border of the Navajo Reservation. GIMC offers a wide range of clinical specialties and handles a significant patient volume, making it one of the largest facilities within the Indian Health Service. The workload includes 250,000 outpatient encounters and 5800 inpatient admissions annually. GIMC is the largest staff of all the Navajo area facilities. The facility is located at 1808 West Aztec Ave. Gallup NM 87301.

Requirements

  • Possess a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in any State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or the District of Columbia.
  • Be board-certified by the American Board of General Surgery.
  • Currently hold BLS certification through the AHA or ARC.
  • Hold a degree of Doctor of Medicine, or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.

Responsibilities

  • Perform orthopedic duties and manage patients' needs as directed by the Chief of Orthopedics or designee.
  • Provide inpatient and outpatient orthopedic services within the Orthopedic Clinic, wards, and operating rooms at Gallup Indian Medical Center, and other clinical settings as required for consultation.
  • Admit patients to the inpatient units as necessary for appropriate treatment.
  • Co-manage patients in conjunction with other services at GIMC, such as Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, or General Surgery.
  • Attend outpatient clinic sessions, evaluate patient complaints, make diagnoses, design treatment plans, educate patients and families about their conditions, and initiate care.
  • Treat patients presenting with a variety of musculoskeletal conditions across all age groups, with an approximate patient mix of 90% adult and 10% pediatric.
