The Orthopedic PA independently evaluates, diagnoses, and treats orthopedic hand and upper-extremity conditions in an outpatient clinic, developing treatment plans with supervising physicians and managing pre- and post-operative care. The role includes ordering, interpreting, and communicating diagnostic studies, and performing office-based procedures within the provider’s scope of practice, such as injections, fracture management, casting and splinting, wound care, and suture removal. The PA serves as a first assistant in orthopedic hand and upper-extremity surgeries and supports surgical preparation, perioperative management, operating room workflow, and post-operative care coordination. The position may also assist with inpatient orthopedic consultations and follow-up, urgent orthopedic evaluations, and shared call coverage in a 1:4 rotation. The PA maintains an independent clinic schedule and patient panel within established protocols, coordinates care with physicians and multidisciplinary teams, and contributes to quality improvement, patient experience, outreach, and community engagement. Additional income opportunities may include orthopedic urgent care, sideline medical coverage for community athletic partnerships and local high schools, and sports medicine and special event coverage.
