About The Position

The Genesis Orthopedic APP Clinical Fellowship is a 12-month, full-time, paid training year designed for new graduates who are serious about orthopedics and ready to gain the necessary experience. This program addresses the common challenge new graduates face in obtaining orthopedic experience. The fellowship embeds trainees across the full continuum of orthopedic care, including clinic, hospital, and the operating room, with responsibilities that grow as their competency increases. Trainees receive structured mentorship from Genesis surgeons and senior APPs, progressive autonomy, and a clear path to a permanent role within the practice upon completion. The program emphasizes hands-on experience with real patients and procedures, aiming to prepare fellows for independent practice by the end of the 12-month period.

Requirements

  • Recent PA-C or NP graduate, or about to graduate
  • BC or board-eligible
  • Licensed in Illinois or in the process of obtaining licensure
  • Willingness to be coached and learn
  • Aptitude and drive for orthopedics
  • Comfortable with complexity, multiple sites, rotating schedules, and call coverage

Responsibilities

  • Independent orthopedic evaluations and treatment planning
  • Fracture and acute injury management
  • Post-op visits and wound care
  • Injections, splinting, casting, and in-office procedures
  • Imaging review and clinical decision-making
  • Daily inpatient rounding
  • ED and floor consults
  • Orders, documentation, and discharge planning
  • Serving as the liaison between surgeons and hospital teams
  • Surgical first assist
  • Pre- and post-operative care coordination
  • Progressive OR responsibility as skills develop
