About The Position

Under the direction of the Sr. Director for Clinical Development and the Practice Manager for Orthopedics, the Casting Tech, supports patient throughput, clinical assessment, and management/delivery of durable medical equipment.

Requirements

Proven work experience as an Orthopedic Cast Technician or similar role
Experience with cast application and removal techniques
Knowledge of orthopedic terminology and procedures
Demonstrated knowledge and experience working with an Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
High school diploma or equivalent

Nice To Haves

Preferred minimum 2 years Orthopedic Technician experience within an orthopedic practice (or military technical medic training)
Certification as an Orthopedic Technologist (OTC) or Nationally Certified Medical Assistant preferred

Responsibilities

Apply, adjust and remove casts
Measure and fit patients for braces and other orthopedic devices
Assist Orthopedic Surgeon with examinations and medical procedures
Instruct patient in proper care of cast and splints, including walking with casts and boots
Instructing patients with the use of crutches and DME
Change dressing and care for wounds
Remove sutures, staples, etc.
Order medical supplies and manage DME inventory
EMR documentation of services performed
Observes patients and reports adverse reactions to medication or treatment to medical personnel in charge.
Provides patient education and instruction as directed by the Physician.
Makes decisions and judgments on phone calls, answering questions and advising patients with Physician guidelines.
Instructs patient in preparation for procedures and in-home care, using instruction sheets when applicable.
Maintains knowledge of and complies with established policies and procedures.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
