About The Position

Orthodontists specialize in the diagnosis, prevention, and correction of teeth and jaw irregularities. They design, fabricate, or use orthodontic appliances to realign teeth and jaws to allow for normal functioning and to improve appearance. This role provides services in clinical, hospital, and operating room settings.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry (DMD)
  • Successful completion of a residency training program in orthodontics approved by the Commission on Dental Accreditation.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the preparation of reports and written documentation as required by the department, company, and State and Federal agencies.
  • Maintain proper, detailed, and accurate dental records.
  • Travel between clinics to work, as needed.
  • Be on-call, as scheduled, by the Dental Director/Administrative Director (AD).
  • Assist Clinic Manager/AD in supervising the dental staff and assuring that the clinic is compliant with State and Federal guidelines.
  • Meet productivity goals, as set by the Arkansas Children's Hospital organization and assist the AD, and work with dental staff to accomplish that goal.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor with patients, staff, and administration.
  • Perform other tasks, as directed by the Dental Director/AD, as needed to meet clinic or organization goals.
  • Supervise Dental Assistants with whom he/she works.
  • Understand the organization's commitment to provide high-quality patient care. Promote a patient-centered environment.
  • Examine, diagnose, and treat dental conditions to provide optimum care to patients.
  • Consult with the patient/parent/guardian and advise them of dental status and required treatment.
  • Educate patients regarding oral conditions, provide treatment options, and explain to the patient/parent/guardian the risks, benefits, and alternatives of each option.
  • Use various diagnostic tests to determine the condition of patients' teeth.
  • Study patient records, including dental histories, plaster models of teeth, and X-rays to develop treatment plans for patients.
  • Discuss treatment plans and cost estimates with patients.
  • Treat occlusion issues and other oral conditions.
  • Instruct assistants on orthodontic procedures and techniques.
  • Collaborate with other specialists, such as dentists and oral surgeons, to coordinate orthodontic services within the overall treatment plan.
  • Fit patients for various orthodontic appliances.
  • Schedule regular checkups with patients to make adjustments to orthodontic appliances, such as tightening braces, and track patient progress.
  • Educate patients about ongoing orthodontic care and explain proper oral hygiene methods for good oral health.
  • Provide referrals to other professionals, such as oral surgeons, when needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
