About The Position

This position involves assisting the Doctor in orthodontic procedures, including setting up and maintaining equipment, preparing patients for treatment from the beginning to the end of their appointment, and performing various clinical and administrative tasks. The role requires adherence to strict policies and procedures, including those from Dental Depot, OSHA, and HIPAA, to ensure patient privacy and safety. The position may also involve inventory management, fabrication of dental appliances, and potentially relocating to other clinics as needed.

Requirements

  • Completion of Dental Assisting Program or minimum one year experience as a Dental Assistant.
  • Current Oklahoma Dental Assisting Permit Required.
  • Radiation Safety and Protection Permit Required within 6 months of employment with Dental Depot.
  • Coronal Polishing and Topical Fluoride Permit Required within 6 months of eligibility.
  • Efficiently operates assigned computer software and other equipment, including Eaglesoft, Dolphin and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Must have a valid driver's license, proof of valid vehicle insurance and must have annual Motor Vehicle Record Check, as a condition of employment if employee operates any Company owned vehicles or drives their own personal vehicle for Company business purposes.
  • Understand HIPAA to ensure patient privacy.
  • Clear understanding of sterilization system and infection control.
  • Always use protective personal equipment according to State of Oklahoma and Federal guidelines.
  • Knowledge of CDT Codes and pass the bi-annual Dental Depot CDT codes test.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare patient, sterilize or disinfect instruments, set up instrument trays, prepare materials, or assist Doctor during orthodontic procedures.
  • Record treatment information in patient records and chart existing and proposed treatment in Dolphin.
  • Expose dental diagnostic x-rays, and is responsible for x-ray sensor care and guidelines.
  • Take and record medical and orthodontic histories of patients.
  • Assist Doctor in management of medical or orthodontic emergencies.
  • Provide postoperative instructions prescribed by Doctor and dismiss patients with proper hand offs to other departments.
  • Instruct patients in oral hygiene and orthodontic care.
  • Conduct orthodontic supply inventory, order supplies and track budgets for inventory (may be designated as Orthodontic Clinical Inventory Administrator).
  • Assist in the removal of braces and clean up, delivery of full bonding, bonded retainers, bands and clear aligners.
  • Take diagnosable series 8 photographs, panoramic x-rays, cephalometric x-rays, and impressions.
  • Fabricate temporary restorations or custom impressions from preliminary impressions.
  • Make preliminary impressions for study casts and occlusal registrations for mounting study casts.
  • Pour, trim, and polish study casts, prepare whitening trays and essix retainers.
  • Clean and polish removable appliances.
  • Apply protective coating of fluoride to teeth.
  • Comply with Dental Depot policies and procedures; OSHA policies, procedures, rules, and regulations; and HIPAA policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Relocate to other Dental Depot clinics either permanently or on a short term basis due to office needs, on an as needed basis at the discretion of Management.
  • Complete other Administrative and Maintenance tasks as assigned by Management.
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
