Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience in the practice of orthodontic assisting and knowledge in orthodontic procedures, appliances and techniques as acquired through working a minimum of one year in an orthodontic or orthodontic/pediatric dental practice.
  • Familiarity and ability to take intra and extra oral radiographs; including cone beam computed tomography (CBCT).
  • Current CPR certification – Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers through American Heart or American Red Cross is required.

Responsibilities

  • Under the direction of the orthodontist takes radiographs, photos, impressions and completes reversible orthodontic procedures.
  • Responsible for the disinfection of the work area and sterilization of instruments and equipment, monitors supply levels and expiration dates.
  • Performs laboratory functions; such as pouring up models, fabrication and repair of appliances.
  • Individuals must have great control of the small muscles of hands and fingers and exceptional hand-eye coordination to work precisely with small instruments and orthodontic components directly in the patient's mouth.
  • Administrative functions may include scheduling patient appointments and liaising with insurance/financial representatives.
