The Orthodontic Assistant will support doctors during treatment exams and all necessary functions. RDAs are responsible for performing all duties of a Registered Dental Assistant while providing quality customer service and maintaining a professional relationship and positive attitude with co-workers and patients alike. The Orthodontic Assistant will assist the Orthodontist chairside during orthodontic procedures including bonding, banding, and debanding, and perform routine orthodontic clinical tasks. This position will be responsible for and do the following: Greet and prepare patients for orthodontic care Assist the orthodontist at the chair while they are engaged in any treatment of patients, including bonding, banding, and debanding Excellent communication skills Must anticipate the orthodontist's needs and be prepared for the next steps Removal and placement of arch wires and elastics Placement of separators and brackets Remove excess cement and tooth preparation prior to bonding Accurate computer charting Take intraoral and extraoral photographs Take digital impressions (iTero), panoramic (Panorex), and cephalometric (Ceph) x-rays Sterilization of chairs and instruments in compliance with OSHA guidelines Responsible for oral hygiene and appliance care instructions Educate patients and parents on oral hygiene, appliance care, and the importance of compliance with treatment plans (elastics, headgear, etc.) Ensure patients are comfortable and informed throughout their visit Undertake lab tasks as instructed
