About The Position

The Ortho Tech is responsible for applying, removing, and adjusting casts and soft goods. The role assists medical staff with orthopedic procedures as needed to expedite patient care. The position promotes patient education and safety, enhances customer satisfaction, demonstrates understanding of resource utilization, and performs other assigned duties.

The Orthopedic Clinic provides services related to musculoskeletal injuries and congenital disorders, including professional consultation, education, and outreach programs and services. Children’s Minnesota is an independent, not-for-profit pediatric health system serving children from before birth through young adulthood across the Upper Midwest.

Requirements

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Registered Orthopedic Technologist (ROT) certification through the American Society of Orthopedic Professionals (ASOP), or Orthopedic Technologist Certified (OTC) certification through the National Board for Certification of Orthopedic Technologist (NBCOT).
• If not ROT- or OTC-certified, agree to complete the ROT examination within 18 months of hire. To qualify for the examination, have one year of casting experience under a physician’s direction or six months of experience under an ROT’s supervision.
• Two years of experience in a health care setting working with patients and staff and providing assistance with responsibilities such as those of a Medical Assistant (MA).

Nice To Haves

• High school diploma preferred.
• Experience as an Orthopedic Technician preferred.
