Requirements

  • Graduate of accredited surgical technology program
  • Current certification for surgical technologist in the State of Kansas
  • Current BLS card within 30 days of hire or by the end of orientation, whichever comes first. Acceptable courses are American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross.
  • Surgical instrumentation
  • Ability to apply the basic principles of patient care
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively
  • Keyboarding skills and basic computer skills
  • Multi-tasking and prioritization skills
  • Medium Work: Occasionally exerting up to 50 lbs - constantly exerting up to 10 lbs.
  • 26-50% of the day may be standing or walking.

Nice To Haves

  • 1 year of Surgical OR experience
  • AS degree in surgical technology

Responsibilities

  • Provides education to scrub techs
  • Keeps an accurate inventory of supplies
  • Orders supplies
  • Ensures proper and accurate identification of patient and procedure with the procedure team
  • Performs nursing tech actions with safety, skill, efficiency, and effectiveness
  • Ensures patients’ right to privacy and confidentiality
  • Demonstrates creativity and innovativeness, while adhering to accepted policies and procedures
  • Regularly demonstrates ability to exercise independent judgment in times of need and emergency situations
  • Prepares patients for surgical procedures.
  • Properly positions patients for operation, ensuring that operative sites are accessible to the surgeon.
  • Gathers, checks, and prepares surgical equipment prior to procedures.
  • Ensures that the surgical team wears proper protective gear.
  • Retrieves surgical instruments and equipment for the operating team during procedures.
  • Sterilizes the operating room before and after surgical procedures.
  • Prepares surgical supplies and maintains inventory for upcoming surgeries.
  • Act in accordance with the established mission, vision, and values.
  • Abide by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability privacy and security regulations regarding all aspects of Protected Health Information (PHI).
  • Maintain effective communication and professional working relationships with patients/clients and their representatives, team members, contractors, physicians, peers, outside agencies, and the public.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
