About The Position

ASRC Federal is seeking a ORION Harness Manufacturing Engineer at Kennedy Space Center, FL. This role plans and authors procedures for the Orion Spacecraft Harnessing elements and provides floor support for a harnessing and/or thermal preparation manufacturing environment. The engineer will perform various duties including creating and/or developing harness/thermal preparation manufacturing work instructions, determining the sequence of build, selecting or designing required tools, and solving production problems during the build of harnessing/thermal preparation piece parts and assemblies. The position also involves assisting in investigating design/manufacturing factors, developing and maintaining assembly documentation, troubleshooting anomalies, and performing producibility reviews on engineering designs/drawings.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an ABET-accredited program in Mechanical / Aerospace / Manufacturing engineering and at least 2 years of experience or equivalent experience/combined education.
  • Knowledge of production manufacturing and assembly processes.
  • Experience with Engineering Change Management
  • Experience demonstrating use of SAP (VE CAMS) or similar supporting software for generating manufacturing work instructions, routings, product structure, and manufacturing bill of materials (EBOM/MBOM).
  • Experience with harness/electrical/thermal preparation complex installations
  • Experienced in the review of engineering drawings and as a floor liaison.
  • Experience and understanding of configuration management practices and databases such as Windchill, EPDM, or similar.
  • Experience with CAD/CAM software such as Creo Parametric, CreoView, EdgeCAM, Delmia
  • Good verbal and written communication including technical writing. Ability to read, analyze and interpret various technical procedures and reports. Ability to write reports and keep accurate documentation.
  • Advanced Skills in the Microsoft Office software suite.
  • Ability to travel as necessary.
  • Availability to adjust their schedule accordingly to support off-shifts and weekend activities as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with harnessing standards IPC/WHMA-A-620 and NASA-STD-8739.4.
  • Knowledge of thermal preparation principles, assembly, and design.
  • Hands on experience fabricating spaceflight hardware in a AS9100 manufacturing environment.
  • Experience implementing Six Sigma principles to a manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in investigating design / manufacturing factors such as equipment or part availability, manufacturability, ease of assembly, and large assembly management.
  • Develops and maintains all assembly documentation.
  • Trouble shoots / corrects anomalies and discrepant hardware.
  • Performs producibility reviews on engineering designs / drawings to assess manufacturability, ease of assembly, and material availability.
  • Routinely interfaces with program personnel and reports project status to leadership.
