About The Position

The Boeing Company is seeking an Organization Designation Authorization (ODA) Inspection Unit Manager to join the team in North Charleston, South Carolina. This role involves managing employees who perform activities across multiple Quality Management Job Families, developing and executing business plans, policies, and procedures, and providing education and coaching on the Quality System and ODA procedures. The manager will also acquire and manage resources, lead process improvements, and develop/maintain relationships with customers, stakeholders, and partners. A key part of the role includes managing ODA Inspection Unit Members who issue airworthiness certificates, determine product acceptability, prepare inspection reports for the FAA, communicate with the FAA on regulatory issues, and coordinate conformity inspections.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of quality experience
  • 3+ years of experience with Microsoft Office Products like Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, and Word
  • Willing to work variable shifts; including days, evenings, nights and weekends
  • Candidates must have at least one year of experience in a leadership role (team leader, temp manager, large scale cross functional project/program management, or formal manager experience) OR have completed the Boeing internal course “Exploring Leadership.
  • Must meet U.S. export control compliance requirements. To meet U.S. export control compliance requirements, a “U.S. Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.62 is required. “U.S. Person” includes U.S. Citizen, U.S. National, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Responsibilities

  • Manages employees performing activities across multiple Quality Management Job Families
  • Develops and executes business plans, policies and procedures and develops organizational and technical strategies
  • Provides education and coaching on the Quality System and ODA procedures
  • Acquires and manages resources and leads process improvements
  • Develops and maintains relationships and partnerships with customers, stakeholders, peers, partners, suppliers and direct reports
  • Manages, develops and motivates employees
  • Manages ODA Inspection Unit Members who perform the following: Issues airworthiness certificates (standard, export, experimental, special flight permit) or approvals on eligible products (e.g., aircraft, related parts) to ensure compliance to type design and that the products are in a condition for safe operation
  • Determines acceptability of submitted application and that aircraft are eligible for certificate requested including special requirements of the importing country
  • Prepares or reviews type inspection reports for submittal to FAA
  • Communicates with FAA regarding regulatory issues or status
  • Coordinates with applicable FAA or Company representatives on conformity inspection issues
  • Verifies and documents completion and status of inspections
  • Updates conformity databases to ensure specific inspection requirement is complete
