Organic Farm Worker - Livestock
About The Position
We are seeking a reliable and hardworking Organic Farm Worker – Livestock to support the daily operations of a beef cattle farm. This role is responsible for the care and monitoring of beef cattle, maintaining clean and safe livestock facilities, supporting feeding and animal health operations, assisting with breeding activities, and completing general farm maintenance duties. The successful candidate must be comfortable working in a physically demanding, hands-on farm environment and be willing to work flexible hours based on livestock and farm needs, including early mornings, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
Requirements
- No degree, certificate, or diploma required.
- 2–3 years of relevant livestock, agricultural, or beef cattle experience.
- Knowledge of safe and humane livestock handling and animal-care procedures.
- Ability to follow instructions and established procedures.
- Reliable, dependable, organized, and detail-oriented.
- Flexible, adaptable, and able to learn quickly.
- Good judgment and decision-making skills.
- Able to work independently.
- Strong work ethic and commitment to animal welfare.
- Safety-conscious.
- Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Willingness to work flexible hours based on livestock and farm needs, including early mornings, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
Nice To Haves
- Experience with livestock feeding, animal health, breeding, and barn/facility maintenance is an asset.
Responsibilities
- Feed and provide fresh water to beef cattle according to established schedules.
- Monitor cattle daily for signs of illness, injury, stress, unusual behaviour, changes in condition, feed intake, and overall well-being.
- Assist with identifying and treating common health issues, vaccinations, medications, health checks, and basic animal care under supervision.
- Assist with breeding programs and monitor cattle during breeding, calving, and other livestock activities.
- Maintain accurate records related to animal health, feeding, breeding, and treatment.
- Safely and humanely handle, sort, load, unload, and move cattle.
- Prepare livestock areas for changing weather and seasonal conditions.
- Follow organic farming practices and animal-welfare standards.
- Clean and maintain barns, pens, stables, barnyards, feeding areas, livestock equipment, bedding, and sanitation areas.
- Remove manure and maintain clean and sanitary livestock areas.
- Assist with fencing, gates, water systems, feeding equipment, and general farm maintenance.
- Operate and maintain basic farm tools and equipment.
- Ensure the work environment is clean, organized, and safe.
- Follow workplace safety procedures and environmental guidelines.
- Assist with general farm duties and seasonal tasks as required.
- Support the preparation and maintenance of livestock areas.
- Assist with maintaining water systems, feeding equipment, fencing, gates, and other farm infrastructure.
- Perform other general farm duties as assigned.
