About The Position

We are seeking an Organic Growth Specialist to own Skillz's presence across key community and discovery surfaces. The ideal candidate will build and operate a credible, FTC-disclosed community manager presence on Reddit, Discord, Quora, AskGamblers, Trustpilot, and major sweeps-specific forums while seeding transparent organic affiliate and referral links to drive free-tier signups. This role is also responsible for standing up an official Skillz Discord server with daily engagement rituals, drops, codes, and community-led tournaments, as well as owning on-page, technical, and off-page SEO to rank skillz.com against comparison-site incumbents like Casino.org, Gambling.com, and AskGamblers. The right candidate will bring a scrappy approach to earned media through podcast guesting, niche press, HARO/Qwoted, and review-site outreach, and will support the broader Skillz cross-sell funnel via magic-link auto-login and strategic content seeding.

Requirements

  • 2-5 years in organic growth, community management, SEO, or content marketing for consumer tech (gaming, gambling, fintech, crypto, or DTC preferred).
  • Demonstrable community wins to point to: subreddit growth / AMA hosting, Discord server scale-up, Quora top-contributor status, AskGamblers / Trustpilot rating turnarounds, or comparable.
  • Working SEO with named examples — keywords ranked, referring domains grown, content pages shipped, and the resulting traffic / signup deltas.
  • Working knowledge of FTC endorsement guidelines and platform-specific promotional rules; can write the disclosure language without legal hand-holding.
  • Hands-on with GSC, Bing Webmaster Tools, GA4, Ahrefs or SEMrush, and at least one Discord moderation / bot stack.
  • Excellent Excel and Tableau skills; SQL is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to set up clean UTM / GA4 attribution and report CAC, registration → FTP, and channel-level LTV to leadership.
  • Comfortable in a 0-to-1 environment with limited playbooks; can build organic UA, community, and SEO frameworks from scratch.

Responsibilities

  • Community-Native Communication: Demonstrable history operating as a named, disclosed brand voice on Reddit, Discord, Quora, or comparable community surfaces for a consumer brand (gaming, gambling, fintech, crypto, or DTC). Has lived through subreddit promotional-rule enforcement, AskGamblers / Trustpilot complaint cycles, and Discord moderation at scale.
  • FTC & Platform-Policy Literacy: Fluent in FTC endorsement guidelines (16 CFR Part 255) for affiliate / referral disclosure, Reddit's sitewide and sub-level promotional rules, Quora promotional content policy, and Discord ToS. Treats disclosure as the operating default, not a footnote. Bonus: prior experience with US sweepstakes / social-casino category constraints (AMOE, 21+, state exclusions, Google's Oct 2025 RMG reclassification of sweeps).
  • SEO & Indexing: Working SEO proficiency — technical SEO (crawl, index, schema, Core Web Vitals, sitemaps), on-page (keyword strategy, content structure), and off-page (link building, comparison / review-site placements, HARO / Qwoted, podcast guesting). Comfortable in GSC, Bing Webmaster Tools, Ahrefs / SEMrush. Has personally moved a domain from invisibility to mid-tail rankings in a competitive vertical.
  • Discord Community Operations: Has stood up or scaled a verified, geo-gated Discord server for a consumer / gaming brand. Comfortable building moderation rotas, recruiting volunteer mods, running drops / codes / community tournaments, and turning the server into a measurable signup channel.
  • Earned Media & Outreach: Has booked podcast guest spots, secured niche press placements, run HARO / Qwoted / Help-A-B2B-Writer flows, and / or shepherded a Wikipedia / Wikidata entry through to publication. Understands the difference between paid placements and editorial.
  • Organic Affiliate & Referral Mechanics: Understands UTM-tagged organic referral links, branded short-links, and surface-specific landing pages. Can build the operating playbook for which links go where, with what disclosure, and how performance is attributed.
  • Analytics & Reporting: Sets up clean attribution (UTM frameworks, GA4, server-side tagging basics), builds an organic-funnel dashboard (impression → visit → registration → FTP → redemption), and reports channel-level CAC, FTP %, and retention to leadership weekly. Excel and Tableau fluent; SQL a plus.
  • Cross-Sell & Mobile-to-Web Thinking: Bonus if experienced with cross-platform UA strategies (mobile-to-web migration, magic-link / SSO flows, shared loyalty programs) — directly relevant to Skillz → player acquisition.
  • 0-to-1 Operator Mindset: Comfortable in a launch-phase environment with limited playbooks; can build the community, SEO, and earned-media frameworks from scratch and operate them daily.
