About The Position

New England Donor Services (NEDS) coordinates organ and tissue donation in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, the eastern counties of Vermont and Bermuda. NEDS is one of the largest of the 55 Organ Procurement Organizations (OPOs) in the nation, working with over 200 hospitals and serving nearly 15 million people, screening nearly 55,000 potential donor referrals annually. The mission is to save lives through organ and tissue donation. The Organ Donation Coordinator role involves responding on-site to organ donor referrals, providing clinical expertise in donor evaluation, donor management, organ allocation, and organ recovery. This role requires blending high-level clinical and people skills to educate hospital staff, work with donor families for consent, and collaborate with surgical teams and critical care staff to optimize organs for transplantation. Success requires a self-assured professional with keen clinical assessment skills, flexibility, and the ability to remain calm and effective in highly charged and clinically complex situations.

Requirements

  • Experienced ICU RN, Critical Care RN, Trauma Nurse or Critical Care Respiratory Therapist
  • Critical care or trauma experience with medical/clinical credentials including experience managing complicated clinical event
  • Must have valid driver’s license and insurance
  • Must have reliable transportation
  • Must be at least 21 years old
  • Must maintain an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR)
  • Must maintain required minimum personal automobile insurance per NEDS automobile policy

  • Able to sit, stand or bend for extended period of time

Responsibilities

  • Respond on-site to organ donor referrals to provide clinical expertise in donor evaluation, donor management, organ allocation and organ recovery
